Catarina Alvarez is an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) at Nova School of Business and Economics and at Nova FCSH. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Nova SBE and works at the Portuguese Ministry of Finance as an advisor to the Secretary of State for Tax Affairs.

Catarina was a predoctoral research fellow at the University of Barcelona and the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB). She has also been a visiting researcher at the Department of Economics of the Universität Mannheim; the Department of Public Economics at the Max-Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance (Munich); the Center for Macroeconomics and Surveys at the ifo Institute (Munich); and the CES Center for Economic Studies at the University of Munich (LMU). 

She has taught courses in public economics, political economy, and microeconomics at the University of Barcelona, Nova SBE, and Nova FCSH.
